SPAM has seven elements — Fire, Water, Earth, Nature, Light, Shadow and Ether — and the bonus system is the reason element identity matters. Every point of element bonus strengthens your matching abilities, so choosing which elements your deck generates is the first real deck-building decision you make.

The seven elements

  • Fire

    21 cards

  • Light

    21 cards

  • Earth

    21 cards

  • Nature

    21 cards

  • Shadow

    21 cards

  • Water

    21 cards

  • Ether

    1 card

Six elements have deep rosters of 21 cards each plus a dedicated Spirit engine. Ether is special: a single Divine card — Aeltheria, Primordial Mother — carries the entire element, making it the rarest pull in the game.

How element bonuses work

Many abilities print "[Element] bonus (+1)" — using them adds to a team-wide counter for that element. Your abilities of that element then deal more damage or healing based on the counter. Bonuses never decay, which creates SPAM's signature arc: decks that ramp early become dramatically stronger by turn 10. Read more numbers in combat mechanics.

Mono-element vs rainbow decks

  • Mono-element decks (four cards of one element) are the most consistent: every bonus point powers every card, and your Spirit engine never wastes a turn. Most starter and ladder decks at launch are mono or mono-plus-one.
  • Two-element decks work when the second element is self-sufficient — a card that generates its own off-element bonus, or whose ability deals mixed damage.
  • Full rainbow decks dilute your bonuses across too many counters and are the classic beginner trap.

Dual-element bridge cards

Some cards are designed as bridges. Marineflower deals Water and Nature damage and grants both bonuses on critical hits, which is why it anchors Water/Nature hybrids. Herald of Ashes grants Fire bonus (+5) and Nature bonus (+5) in one cast. When you see a card producing two elements, it is usually an invitation to build across both.

Proven pairings

  • Nature + Water: the launch meta's most visible duo — Marineflower bridges the bonuses while Water healing buys time for Nature scaling. See Nature Ramp.
  • Shadow (mono): Shadow's low-HP, high-crit attackers reward keeping every bonus point on one counter. See Mono-Shadow Aggression.
  • Earth + Water: Earth's HP pools and taunts pair naturally with Water sustain for pure attrition builds.
  • Light + Nature: Light's healing kits (Glimmer of Hope, Hatchlings of Midas) keep Nature scalers alive to their dominant late game.

Resistances cut both ways: a mono-element deck can be walled by an opponent stacked with resistance to your element, so keep one off-element damage source — or a resistance-shredding effect — in mind as your collection grows.
